  2. Chuck,
Great work on your blog! Thanks for doing this. It may take awhile for us to sort through all our photos and start posting...but we will.

  3. Establishing contact...
    Hello everyone,
I have finally found a few quiet moments to make some contact with you via this incredible Blog. As I'd mentioned during our trip,I'm not much of a technology person so that blogs generally are new to me. In any event I have read with much interest news that you all have shared over the past week or so. I also had a difficult time re-adjusting to being back in my own skin in San Francisco but time has now passed and life smoothed out. It is hard to settle back into daily life after the intensity of a trip like ours without bumps (and more bumps). Resuming work at Kaiser was especially hard since the acuity of symptoms of Kaiser patients has steadily been increasing.
I have greatly appreciated the suggestions posted about articles and videos to look for which help enrich our experience in China. When I got back I rented Love is A Many Splendid Thing and Seven Days in Tibet. I also devoured Dreams of Joy by Lisa See (sequel to Shanghai Girls) and Battle Hymn of A Tiger Mom by Amy Chua. Strongly recommend if you have time. I have been sharing some impressions and having so some really good discussions with some of my colleagues who were raised in China and it has brought us closer. It has helped me to understand and connect with their life experience in new ways. Over 30% of San Francisco's population now is Chinese.
On a personal note, I want to send wishes for a very smooth and speedy recovery to Nancy this week. I have been thinking about you,Nancy, since I realize this wasn't an easy decision. Given your general strength and good health, you will hopefully have a pretty easy recuperation period. Hopefully you can also enjoy some rest!
I also hope that you are able to have some time with your mother in Germany,Erika, despite her worsening health. It sounds as though you have maintained very close and nurturing ties despite geographic distance.
Susanna, I think of you so often--especially your smile which could light up a room. I hope that all your dreams and wishes will always come to pass.
You all know where I am in San Francisco if anyone ever wants to visit!
    Warm warm wishes,

    Audrey
